The RI Nikolaev Astronomical Observatory (NAO)  started  development of astronomical databases in 2001. First elements for national virtual observatory were created in 2004. Scientific agreement between the RI NAO and the Main Astronomical Observatory (Kyiv) was signed in 2009 to prepare future membership of Ukraine in the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA).  In 2010,  the  UkrVO site  was created. In October 2011, Ukraine became a member of the IVOA.
